Mazda Motor Corporation has started the European auto show season at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show with the all-new Mazda2. Joining it at the stand is an exciting new concept car, Mazda Hakaze, and two vehicles that will ensure Mazda sales momentum continues in Europe this year and beyond – the new Mazda3 2.0 MZR-CD turbo diesel, along with the Mazda CX-7 sports car SUV.
Mazda chose Geneva 2007 for the world premiere of its new Bcar, because sub-compacts are an important and growing segment, especially in Europe. However, the new Mazda2 is much more than simply a model change from the current Mazda2. The all-new Mazda2 refines Mazda’s DNA, enhances B-car driving attributes, while meeting global environmental and safety standards.
Body-structure optimization and an increased use of high-tensile steel have not only made the new Mazda2 safer and quieter, it also made it about 100 kg lighter than its predecessor, making it even more frugal at the pump.
The new Mazda2 will be launched initially with two petrol engines, an MZR 1.3-litre engine (standard 75 PS and 84 PS high-power derivatives depending on market) and an MZR 1.5-litre with 103 PS of power. Both petrols have technologies that deliver brisk throttle response for everyday driving fun and fuel economy that is among the segment’s best. For the European market, a fuel-efficient MZ-CD 1.4-litre diesel engine will be introduced a few months later. |
