DHL Express has signed a total contract hire package for more than 400 delivery vans with Hitachi Capital Commercial Vehicle Services. The partnership bolsters the ten year relationship between the two companies.
Under requirement by DHL Express all vans will be fitted with telematics. This is part of an operational decision by DHL Express to introduce the technology to improve driver behaviour, reduce carbon emissions and in turn, manage the rising cost of fuel to the business and enhance Miles per Gallon (MPG) return.
Richard Crook, director of fleet at DHL Express UK and Ireland commented: “We are pleased to extend our partnership with Hitachi Capital to include light commercial fleet. A key factor for DHL Express was the inclusion of telematics, which we see as a key enabler to achieving our long term goal of reducing carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2020. Our fleet travels over 30 million miles a year so safety is also a top priority for our employees.
Through the use of telematics, we can not only improve our carbon efficiency but also encourage safer driving behaviours.”
